This is precisely what The Addams Family does and this is where… Human beings are always very attracted to death, to the unknown. The Addams Family is the model anti-family. It already embodies a brilliant antithesis to any “respectable” American family.
Everyone in the Addams family was human, albeit rather drab. They were nocturnal creatures who came dangerously close to expiring!
But the Munsters weren’t normal at all (vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc). One of them was humanoid, but the rest of the family detested her since she brought shame on them. She wasn’t a monster, despite being called a “beautiful blonde,” and she was embarrassed by her humanity. Since Charles Addams first put pen to paper in The New Yorker, there have been many different adaptations of the Addams Family canon. Nonetheless, contrary to popular belief, neither Lurch nor Fester were non-human. They are definitely human, but they’re a really abnormal variety.
Are The Addams Family Human?
Many people know that the movie The Addams Family is inspired by the 60s television series. But did you know that the series itself is inspired by the illustrations of Charles Addams? This master illustrator in dark humor created this unusual family for the pages of the New Yorker in the year 1937. Charles Addams was known to share many commonalities with his fictional family. Thus, rumors say that he would have had the strangest interests, and that his house was filled with instruments of medieval torture. Morticia would have loved it!
But how did 20th Century Fox executive producer Scott Rudin come up with the idea of digging up the Addams Family 25 years after the show ended? In fact, the idea was given to him by the son of one of his fellow producers, who began to sing the credits of the series during a car trip. Rudin explains, “When Tom started singing the Addams Family credits, everyone imitated him. We all started to sing this song that we knew to the word and the note! The next day, Scott Rudin proposed the project to two of his colleagues, who immediately accepted.
Anthony Hopkins was expected to play Uncle Fetid, but he declined the role in favor of that of Hannibal Lecter for the film The Silence of the Lambs. Sure, we would have loved to see him as that bald, pot-bellied uncle of the Addams Family, but we thank him for making the wise choice. Could you imagine another actor in the skin of the dreadful Lecter? As for Uncle Fétide, Christopher Lloyd plays him wonderfully.
