Rayon is a synthetic textile made from cellulose extracted from wood pulp [1] . Rayon garments and upholstery have a cotton-like appearance and drape, but they can be brittle when wet and tend to shrink. They can also rub off easily in the wash and wrinkle a lot when washed. Special care must be taken to maintain them, but if you know how you should treat the fabric, it can stay beautiful and durable for quite a long time.

    How to wash rayon?
Rayon: cold or warm water • detergent for delicate fabrics • never bleach • hand or machine wash, gentle cycle, or dry clean • hang to dry. Please note: Like linen, rayon is best ironed when still slightly damp and on the inside of the garment.

Does rayon shrink in the wash?
Rayon is a man-made fiber that is sometimes called artificial silk. It strongly deforms on contact with water or heat. A garment made of this fiber will shrink a lot when washing, and then also when drying.

    Baking soda and soda crystals

It is, in particular, extremely effective in whitening yellowed cotton laundry. For hand washing, you should mix one cup of baking soda with warm water. Soak your yellowed clothes and bedding in the mixture.

How to bring back the white of the linen?
    white vinegar

To sober or de-yellow a textile, simply add a cup of white vinegar to the detergent compartment. In addition to regaining its original whiteness, your laundry will be very soft, vinegar being a natural fabric softener.

Cotton, rayon, and linen are the most successful fabrics to bleach. Dyeing synthetics like polyester is also possible. For optimal results, use bleach that is both fresh (from a recently opened bottle) and at room temperature.
