FedEx Express Canada and Innomar Strategies begin distribution of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine in Canada
Vaccine for Canada’s North will have traveled more than 10,000 kilometers to reach vaccination centers
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 24 3, 2020 /CNW/ – FedEx Express Canada, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and Innomar Strategies today announced the launch of Moderna’s first COVID-19 vaccine distribution operations in Canada on behalf of the Canadian government, with the first shipment expected to arrive at FedEx’s Toronto Sorting Center Express Canada this afternoon. Part of this shipment will continue its journey to the territories to facilitate the distribution of the vaccine in Canada’s North. Vaccine transportation will be simplified through FedEx Express Canada’s extensive network, which will use the cold chain packaging and storage capabilities of Innomar Strategies, a member of the AmerisourceBergen group and the largest provider of patient support services. of the specialty pharmaceutical industry in Canada.
In line with a key federal government logistical requirement, the vaccine arrived from Brussels, Belgium within 48 hours of Health Canada approval. Moderna’s first COVID-19 vaccine delivery is unique in that it will be the first to reach the Northwest Territories. The distribution of the vaccine in Canada comes shortly after the start of FedEx network deliveries of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines to the United States in early December. FedEx is well positioned to ship the COVID-19 vaccine anywhere in the world, with temperature screening solutions, near real-time tracking capabilities and a dedicated healthcare team making it easy to express transportation of vaccines and other life science products.
Innomar will store the vaccine securely in its Canadian GMP warehouses. Equipped to store complex pharmaceutical products, including those subject to cold chain requirements, these warehouses are kept temperature-controlled and equipped with validated monitoring systems to protect against temperature deviations. Prior to dispatch, the vaccine doses will be placed in boxes that meet the temperature specifications indicated by the manufacturer.
