How to Lessen the Pain of Waxing: Top Ten Dos and Don’ts
Make waxing less painful? Yes you can! The first time you get waxed in a certain spot hurts the most, but each time after that it hurts less. When your hair is being pulled out for the first time, it’s hard to believe, but it’s true. Here are some simple things you can do, whether you’ve been waxed before or not, to make it less painful.
1. Calm your nerves
Use something like No Scream Cream to numb the skin before waxing. Take an aspirin or ibuprofen 30–45 minutes before your waxing appointment. This is especially helpful when getting waxed above the lip, on the chest, in the bikini line, or anywhere else that hurts the most.
2. Don’t try to do it yourself.
It doesn’t just mean a licenced person (like an esthetician or cosmetologist), but also someone who has done it before. They will use the wax that works best for the hair, put on the right amount, pull in the right direction, and hold the skin tight. Important for any waxing, but especially important for a Brazilian wax or a bikini wax. Learn more…
3. Lessen acidity
When you smoke, drink a lot of coffee or alcohol, or both, your body makes a lot of acid. You might want to take something like Tums 20 minutes before your service to make your stomach less acidic and your skin less sensitive.
4. Scrub your body.
Most of the time, waxing is enough to get rid of dead skin on the face, but the body needs a little extra help. A body scrub with some grit will help get rid of dead skin cells around pores and hair follicles, making it easier to leave. Use Relax and Wax Scrub Me Luscious Lemon Drop before you wax. It won’t leave your skin greasy or oily, and it will help stop ingrown hairs.
5. Don’t use a toner or astringent.
These tighten the pores and can give the hair follicle a better grip. So don’t do it right away.
6. Don’t use ice to relieve pain.
You might think that using ice to numb the skin and make waxing less painful would be a good idea. But when you put something cold on your skin, the pores close up. It’s the same idea as what we said above: we want our pores to be nice and open.
7. Don’t drink too much alcohol or coffee.
It might seem like a good idea to drink a few glasses of wine or beer before getting waxed, but stimulants in the body can make the skin more sensitive to waxing. Don’t get waxed for a couple of hours after drinking coffee or alcohol. Instead, drink lots of water to keep your skin and body hydrated.
8. Don’t think it will be easy to wax at home.
It’s hard to do on yourself, and if you don’t know what you’re doing, it will hurt a lot.
9. Don’t tense up
Some people hold their breath or tense up their whole bodies while getting waxed. Even though it may be easier to say than to do, take deep breaths. A person who is calm will be able to deal with pain much better.
10. Don’t use wax in places you shouldn’t.
You shouldn’t wax the inside of your ears and nose, your eyelashes, your nipples, or your man parts. If your skin is sunburned or irritated, or if you have warts, moles, cuts, or pimples, don’t wax over them. It’s not only dangerous, but it could also hurt you a lot.
