Depending on the culture of the deceased, it is possible (and even recommended) to wear white, but this is quite rare in Belgium. Indeed, in India, it is the color of circumstance, just like in Vietnam. In China, it’s white and red. As for Japan, black and white are the colors of mourning.
In some countries, it is even possible to wear white to a funeral. This color symbolizes the life that continues and pays tribute to the joy of living of the deceased. Be careful though: check with relatives before choosing a white outfit for a funeral.

The colors to favor on the day of the funeral are:
Black: the most common color that can match any type of funeral;
Grey: for the elderly;
Purple: which corresponds to the liturgical color of the mass for the dead (it is also frequently used between “great mourning” and the end of mourning).
White: symbolizing purity, especially worn for the funeral of a child.
