Constipation is often accompanied by fewer or no bowel sounds. Sometimes you don’t need a stethoscope to hear that your bowel activity has picked up (becomes hyperactive). Having hyperactive bowel sounds indicates a rise in intestinal activity. This can happen after eating or when you have diarrhoea.
The gurgling you hear could be a component of normal digestion. When air and liquid are in your bowels, your intestines move them by contracting. The movement might echo through the stomach and generate sounds.
