    About Digestion

    To absorb food, our digestive tract must first make a mixture of it, which must travel through the entire digestive tract in order to allow the assimilation of nutrients. By a rhythmic movement (peristalsis), the food makes its way into the stomach and then into the intestine.     Why is my stomach making noise?

    First, the stomach is far from the only one to blame. The sounds in question come mostly from the gut. Bowel sounds are usually normal and often inaudible. But this is not always the case and for some people, depending on the place and the circumstances, these sound manifestations can be rather embarrassing.

    When the noises are audible, it is because two factors are present: the muscular contraction of the intestine and the presence of liquid or gas. In other words, your intestine becomes noisy as it tries to move its contents; if the latter consists of gas (which is the case when you are fasting), eating will often calm things down.

    In the absence of nausea, pain or fever, if the noises occur after a meal, the intestine is doing its job normally. However, there are exceptions, which we will see below, related to particular problems such as malabsorption, dyspepsia and infection.


    Some tips to get rid of stomach noises

    In the absence of symptoms indicative of a problem (eg pain, fever, nausea, diarrhea, etc.), there is no specific treatment to eliminate these rumblings. This is a normal physiological process. However, it is possible to improve digestion by eating regularly and calmly, and by chewing food well.

    Adding fiber and fermented foods to your diet may also help. It would be wise to avoid substances that can create turmoil in your stomach: for example gluten if you have a known sensitivity; lactose if you have an intolerance; artificial sweeteners like sorbitol as well as other sugars etc.

    A little examination of conscience in terms of stress will also be welcome. It is known that irritable bowel syndrome is closely linked to stress levels and anxiety – two elements on which exercise has very beneficial effects.
